Day 1
So Fru and I landed in Singapore yesterday morning around 3:30am. We got a taxi to near our hostel and after wandering down a few incorrect streets we ended up at the hostel. Its reception does not open till 7:30, so we wander back to a 7-11 not to far away and chill out with some root beers and some water (OMFG this place is hot and humid and 4am!!!) until the hostel opens. We dump our bags as we cannot get a our room till 2 and head out. We wandered around Little India and had some very cheap and awesome food at some random shop. We wander around somemore. And end up at Mustafa Centre, a store with pretty much everything. (I am unimpressed and consider the place a death trap :D) After sitting down for a while. (oh god my feet!) we head to Sim Lim Square (multilevel shopping centre with only electronics) I am very unimpressed with this place. It has 7 or so floors of the same thing for prices worse than perth and every store has someone out the front saying "Friend! I have something for you"... A little creepy, annoying and pointless. We then head to a food court not to far from Sim Lim Square. I ordered the Fried Kway Teow. It was teh awesome. The food here is so cheap and tasty!
I put down my general grumpiness to lack of sleep and sore feet.
We go back to the hostel and take a nap for around 5 hours and head out again. Its about 9:30pm by this time. We decide to head to the Raffles for some Singapore slings at the hotel accross the road who do we see? John of all people!!! He is on holidays from Africa and he is just about to head to the airport. We have a drink and some conversation and he heads off to get ready to depart and we head off to the Raffles. We have the customary Singapore sling and eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor (its ok you can do that there). 54 bucks and then some for 2 drinks..... ok sure why not. Its the birthplace and we are on holidays.
After that we head off to Clarke Quay where there happens to be a Hooters (not sure how asia and Hooters go together but why not) we head down there and since its midnight its closed. Ah damn it. Seems pretty much everything in singapore closes at midnight. And the last train is at 11:30pm O_o And people thing perth public transport is crap.
So we wander down to china town. There is a few food places open so we take a look. Fish gut porridge anyone??? Yeah.....so we goto 7-11 for some drinks and then catch a cab back to the hostel.
An interesting day if exhausting.
Day 2
I woke up around 9:30 and we head out to Chinatown. We get off the train and there is a food place. I order the won ton soon and it is tasty. We see a bakery next door. The cakes there are also tasty. We head down the touristy area its very tourist but not annoyingly so. We wander around a bit taking photos, bought a hat, i needed one. (I should go back for some presents.)
We go to some development centre/museum whos name escapes me for the moment. It has scale models of the whole island which is interesting and helped as I kind of know where everything is now. They had a camera on the roof of the building you could control via a terminal they had. So fru is playing with it and after zooming in on a women on her balcony says "There, thats as close to a women as we are going to get" I of course retort with "Well thats as close as YOU are going to get" :D
We head around more areas of china town. We come to a "Park" which is market on the tour map. It seems the Singapore version of park is footpath with some seats and a pagola with a couple of plants on either side...
In any case we wander around take some pics of a Buddist temple and head to a Shopping area called China Square. There are 2 floors of shops that are basically Empire toys!
We head to a food court for dinner. I had one of the best burgers I have ever had at a place called Mos Burger. Apparently its a Japanese burger chain and Fru suggested I try it....Very nice. We chill for a while and go to a place called Lau Pat Sat market. It is basically a big shed like place with like 50+ food stalls. They have people there pushing Kebabs! (You want Kebab?!) As we had just eaten I grabbed a drink which I used to get when I used to visit Christmas Island. Iced Milo! but they make it awesome with condensed milk....awww yeah! Fru has a banana split. He says its not bad. Then he says he is still a bit hungry so I go screw it, time for second dinners and we get some Kebabs and Tiger Beer. I dislike beer but meh.....Best Satay Kebabs every. Im just going to say food here is awesome again!
After this it is approaching 9pm so we decide to call it a night. We head in the general direction of the subway. Fru disbelieves the thing i am point out is the subway station and we continue down the road...Oh well we end up near the Merlion of Singapore and take lots of happy snaps. Some amusing (to be posted at a later time) and then head back to where the subway was.
We come back to the hostel. Drop out things int he room and we come down to the lobby of the hostel and here i am now typing this drinking Rum and coke.
